Blu-ray is going to Replace DVD
Blu-ray is kind of new optical disc format that offers more than five times storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. Besides, while current optical disc technologies such as DVD rely on a red laser(405nm) to read and write date, the new format uses a blue laser(650nm) instead, which make it possible to focus the laser spot with even greater precision. This allows data to be packed more tightly and stored in less space, so it’s possible to fit more data on the disc even though it’s the same size as a CD/DVD. Although DVD is still widely used in most of families, Ble-ray is able to go to replace DVD with its advanced and practicable technologies.
